Pipeline over time
Song pages at each stage, from 2026-06-14 to today. History before this report existed is read back from every published version of the homepage chart.
- Latest structure

- Metadata tagging
Depth across the catalogue
How much documented recording detail each song page carries. The floor (1,700 words of core text) is what a page needs before its review badge is honest; the target is 2,300; the Dear Prudence exemplar sits at 2,922. 1 review-badged page sits below the floor, and 87 pages are still drafts.
- Review-badged

Data review, lane by lane
The current priority. Pages were sorted by depth on 1 September into tiers and are re-authored tier by tier; a page counts as cleared once it is review-badged and at the floor (the fourth tier counts pages at the 2,300-word target).

Lane register
What each ring measures. live means the figure is counted from the pages on every run; a date means the lane has no page-level metric and carries the figure from its last audit.

The Let It Be track is not a later recording: it is the February 1968 performance, slowed down and dressed in Phil Spector's 1970 orchestra and choir. The song first came out in December 1969 on a World Wildlife Fund charity album, speeded up and framed with bird sounds, and its high harmonies were sung by two fans invited in from outside the studio.
Only one real mix of the 1963 recording exists, the mono single of 4 July 1963: the two-track session tape did not survive, so every stereo version of the 1960s and 1970s was faked from the mono, and the German Sie Liebt Dich had to be recorded from scratch in Paris.
The single and the stereo album track are different performances: the single is the mono mixed on 30 November 1962, while the stereo was edited three months later from takes 16, 17 and 18 and carries the verse-three slip; only the harmonica, overdubbed once, is shared. The slow September 1962 version survives on a copy found in 1994.
The single is not the rooftop performance: it was taped in the Apple basement on 28 January 1969 on George's own eight-track, mixed at Olympic, and issued in mono in Britain and in stereo in America, while the shelved Get Back album used an earlier take from 22 January.
The ticking under the guitar is Paul's foot, not a metronome, and the blackbird was added from a 1965 sound-effects tape at the October mix, separately for the mono and the stereo, so the two mixes do not carry the same birdsong.
Only Paul and Ringo play on it, and Ringo's drum kit is not on the record at all: it was mixed out when the tape was bounced down, leaving maracas, hi-hat and a tambourine behind Alan Civil's improvised horn solo.
Three voices were recorded on two microphones in one live three-hour pass, and its true stereo mix sat unused for years while American stereo copies carried a fake made from the mono.
It was the first song taped for Rubber Soul, finished in one afternoon, and on the stereo mix you can hear the studio's big playback speaker leak into John's vocal track just before he starts to sing.
Carl Perkins watched Ringo sing and drum it in five takes, and its two mixes can be told apart by ear: the stereo has more reverb on the voice, repairs one word and ends the guitar solo differently.
The Pete Best version from the June 1962 artist test is not lost: a copy turned up in 1994 and was issued on Anthology 1.
How these numbers are made
- Enriching data counts the song pages that carry the In review badge: pages rebuilt against the primary sources. Latest structure counts pages that carry the current layout, with a numbered Sources list.
- Data review counts pages whose core text (Recording, Recording Timeline, Studio Notes and Releases together) reaches 1,700 words, the depth a page needs before its badge is honest.
- Quotation analysis counts pages whose earlier quotations have been checked against the books and put back where they were sound. Metadata tagging counts songs in the tag layer you can explore below.
- Source-verified claims totals every fact on the rebuilt pages that has been matched, word for word, to a page of one of the source books.
- Lanes without a page-by-page measure carry the figure from their last check, dated in the lane register.
- The whole report is rebuilt from the site's own pages every time a working session closes, together with the homepage chart.

A growing map of the catalogue. Every song carries a small, deliberate set of navigation tags — who sang it, how it was cut, what it is about — so you can hop from any song to the others that share its character. 94 of 215 songs tagged so far; the map fills out as each deep-dive enrichment lands.
The tag cloud
Tags are grouped by what they describe: who sang, how the song was written and recorded, what it is about. Tap one to list the songs that carry it; the number shows how many share it. Shared tags are the hops between songs, and the map below draws every one.

The connection map
On a wider screen the same data becomes an interactive web: small dots are songs, the chips are the same tags as above (bigger chip, more songs), and every line is a path you can follow. Hover anything to light up its connections, or pick a tag above to trace it here.
